About

Technically, Clara Joh Designs began in Washington, DC in early 2020 when I made a pair of clay earrings for my sister and posted them on Instagram. People started asking to buy them and you could say the rest is history. But really, I’ve been making jewelry and crafting since I was a very little girl (shrinky dink stained glass replicas, anyone?) and have always had the itch to create. As a classical flutist, I’m inspired by many art forms and love drawing on visual art, music, poetry, and literature to inform my designs. I've evolved over the last 5 years from making clay earrings to clay beads to incorporating pearls and gemstones and shifting from gold plated to gold filled findings.
Originally from Cincinnati, my husband and I met in Michigan and moved to DC shortly after our wedding. After 4 lovely years there working in the nonprofit sector and doing jewelry on the side, we moved to Charlottesville, VA which we now call home. I recently left my job to focus on creating beautiful things and raising good little people, specifically my 18 month old son.
My vision for Clara Joh Designs is to create jewelry that can be with you for all of life’s moments - the special days and the ordinary ones. Seeing a bride walk down the aisle wearing my jewelry will never get old. But neither will knowing you wore my earrings on your morning Zoom call or that your baby woke up with the imprint of a pearl on his cheek after falling asleep on your chest. I hope this jewelry accompanies you through the many seasons of life and helps you remember that the ordinary days are special, too.
